Martin Margiela is not synonymous with deconstructed understatement, but he is not far from it either. Born in Belgium in 1957, Martin took his design classes at Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1980. He was one of the six original members of the legendary Antwerp's Six (Dries Van Noten, Dirk Bikkembergs, Dirk Van Saene, Ann Demeulemeester and Walter Van Beirendonck), but soon left them in favour of Jean Paul Gaultier.
In 1988, Margiela presented his first collection under his own label, and today, Maison Martin Margiela counts 8 different collections (women's, men's, accessories and shoes) . The collections are differentiated by numbers, and the labels on the garments are basically the same for all collections, except for a circle around the relevant collection number. Moreover, the labels are fastened with the typical four visible white stitches in the neck.
Martin Margiela's concept stores are called Maison Martin Margiela, and are situated around the globe, in cities as Paris, Brussels, Tokyo, New York, Taipei, Seoul and Hong Kong. The stores have a very inconsistent look, and the only consistency seems to be the color (!) white.
(Maison Martin Margiela - 25 bis - rue de Montpensier - Paris) Secret Society currently stocks Martin Margiela collection 10, 14 and MM6. The first two being men's colletions, while the latter is vêtements pour ♀.

Visvim Fbt Ancestor Nez Perce - Brown/Yellow and White/Red
We will be receiving a new shipment of Visvim in the coming days, and these models will be present for our re-opening on the 7th of August. The FBT is made of ELK skin this time around, and the feel of that shoe is amazing. If you have missed out on the story behind Visvim, please take your time to read through the interview from Beinghunted with Visvim founder Hiroki Nakamura. In addition, check out his Honeyee.com blog.
Life is carbon, is an interesting webblog that writes about art, architecture, design, fashion and music from Scandinavia. They also seem to like what we do.
We have just received these cool bracelets from Limkilde, Denmark. Secret Society is the only store carrying them in Norway, and the second store worldwide.
We have been huge fans of Visvim for the last 4 or 5 years, and finally, we have been given the opportunity to share our enthusiasm for this very unique and eclectic brand from Tokyo. In 2004, Beinghunted, presented the following interview with Visvim founder Hiroki Nakamura. Very interesting reading, if you want to discover the intention and inspiration for the fast growing business of Visvim.
We have received the FBT Neon pack, and they look stunning. For the first time, the FBT model comes with a coloured sole like this. Visvim has so far, only been available for men, but we have received the Black/Purple style in woman's sizes as well.
Finally, a few words regarding our opening date. We are finalizing the refurbishment of our premises, and hopefully we will open someday late next week. We will announce our exact opening date as soon as we know for sure.
Feel free to send us an e-mail, if you have got questions regarding Secret Society.
Have a jolly good weekend, and enjoy the sunshine!
Our previous trip to Tokyo was very inspiring , and one of the most exciting brands we found, was Annak. Annak is an accessories brand, making amazing handcrafted leather products. Secret Society will stock a small selection of Annak. After placing our order, we got the chance to look at the production facilities. It was very instructive to see how the products are made from scratch.
Secret Society recently made its way to French Vogue (we have still not opened our doors!) . French Vogue asked for our 2007 key trends, and we gave them a small glance into our world. Here you can have a look as well. Enjoy!
